We do that work around Athens-Clarke County, for anyone with a piece too heavy to lift, too wide for the doorway, or too much of it to carry out a few items at a time.

When the piece isn't coming back out

Usually the piece went in through a door that has since changed. A sectional that came through a wide slider now has to leave through a standard doorway. A sleeper sofa is stuck in an upstairs room. A solid wood dresser won't tilt around the turn on a landing. If you've measured the couch and the door and the numbers don't agree, that's the job.

Volume is the other sign. One chair is a favor you can ask of a neighbor. Three bedrooms of furniture, a mattress set, a bookshelf and a treadmill is a different thing, and it tends to pile up in the garage while you keep meaning to deal with it. A downsize, an estate, a rental turnover, or new furniture arriving while the old set is still in place all end up here.

Broken and water-damaged pieces count too. A couch that spent two years in a damp garage is usually heavier and more awkward than the day it was delivered, and we haul it out the same as any other.

From the doorway to the truck

Tell us what's there and where it is. A picture of the piece and the door it has to get through saves a lot of back and forth. From there we look at the route: the turns, the stairs, whether the legs come off, whether glass or mirrors are involved.

On the day, we carry the furniture out and load it onto the truck. We use furniture straps for the carry, because a couch with no good handhold is how backs get hurt and doorframes get chewed. If a piece will not fit through the exit, we take it apart in the room with tools, a drill for anything held together with screws or bolts, and carry the parts out. Nothing gets dragged sideways through a doorway with the frame still on it.

Time depends on the list. A sectional out of a ground-floor living room is quick work. A full house, upstairs, with a bed frame to break down before anything moves, is a much longer visit.

What a sectional costs, and what moves the number

A sectional runs $90 to $150 with us. Call and we'll give you a typical range, and the exact number is settled after we've seen the job. Past that, the price follows how much furniture there is, what it's made of, and how far it sits from the truck.

Stairs, especially a tight turn at a landing, push the number up. So does a piece that has to come apart in the room before it will pass, and so does volume: a full truck is a full job no matter how light the individual pieces are. Everything on the ground floor, drawers already emptied and one clean trip from room to truck keeps it down.

You get the number before we start lifting. If it changes once we see the piece in person, it's because something we couldn't see from the photo changed the job, and we tell you before the work begins, not after.

The trash that rides along with the furniture

A couch rarely leaves alone. Once it's out of the way you find the mattress behind it, the boxes that were stacked on it, the broken lamp, and a few bags of household trash pushed into the corner. All of that goes on the same trip in the same truck, with no second visit.

If your job is mostly trash with one chair balanced on top, say so when you call, because it changes what we bring and how we price the trip. If it's mostly furniture with two or three bags, that's an ordinary furniture job. You don't have to move anything to the curb or sort it into piles; we carry it out from wherever it sits. If the pile is largely construction debris, tell us that as well and we'll quote the actual work.
